VSP Vision Care is a not-for-profit vision insurance company which provides eyecare plans to 60 million people in the United States and Canada, the largest not-for-profit vision care company in the United States.〔()〕 ==History== VSP was formed by a group of optometrists in Oakland, CA in 1955 making it the first prepaid, not-for-profit vision benefit. In 2007, VSP expanded its company and network of doctors into Canada. VSP also began to offer “direct to consumer” eyecare plans. Additionally, VSP purchased Legends 4.0 optical lab in Texas.〔()〕 In 2008, it acquired Marchon Eyewear, Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of eyewear, with offices in New York, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Through this acquisition, VSP also gained ownership of the frame company, Allure Eyewear, as well as OfficeMate Software Solutions. As part of the transaction, VSP acquired Marchon’s 50% ownership interest in Eye Designs, custom interiors and merchandising systems.
